After reports of a gas leak, the 400 and 500 blocks of Highland Drive were closed Monday morning as a Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) crew worked to repair the mainline.
Residents were not evacuated, but a police detour prevented pedestrian and car traffic from entering the area during the morning while PG&E repaired the gas main.
Police allowed the return of car and foot traffic in the early afternoon when PG&E deemed it to be safe, although the crew continued to work.
Highland Drive resident Isaac Davies said the detour got in the way of him returning to his house.
“Everything was fine when I left to run an errand this morning,” Davies said. “When I came back just before noon, they told me I couldn’t go in. I left and spent an hour and a half eating lunch and getting groceries, and when I got back, I was able to go into my home.”
Although the cause of the leak remains unclear, PG&E crews continued working through the afternoon.
The San Luis Obispo County Fire Department and San Luis Obispo Police Department were unable to provide specific information because the leak was in front of a private residence and therefore constituted a “private issue.”
A representative of PG&E was unable to provide any additional information about the leak.
