The Cal Poly men’s cross country team wrapped up its 11th conference title in the past 14 years on Saturday, while women’s cross country finished in fourth behind a third place finish from senior LeAnne Fogg.
The men had seven finishers in the top 14, including a second place finish from senior Daniel Gonia who raced for a time of 23:44 over the eight kilometer course.
The team finished with just 36 points (the combined places of their top five finishers) while second place UC Santa Barbara scored 68.
Junior David Cardona placed fourth, and the final five Mustangs came through in a pack taking ninth through 14th place.
On the women’s side, the Mustangs scored 88 points while UC Davis lead the way with 49. Freshman Meghan Breadmore finished just behind Fogg in fourth place, running the six kilometer course in 20:42. Four of the top seven women were freshman, the last being Tansey Lystad who finished in 35th place with a time of 21:54.
The overall winners were Chad Hall of UC Riverside for the men who ran a 23:41 and Long Beach State’s Rosa Del Toro who finished with a time of 20:27.
The NCAA West Regional will be held at Stanford on Nov. 12 followed by the NCAA Championship in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 21.
