Ron Prettyman, the current athletics director for Indiana State University, is set to interview for Cal Poly’s current vacancy at athletics director, according to Sports 10.
“I have been asked to come to campus at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to talk to them about their open AD job,” Prettyman wrote in an e-mail addressed to Iowa State coaches and other staff members Thursday. “I am very happy at Indiana State and am not seeking to make a change. But for a variety of reasons, I owe it to my family and my career to take a close look at this opportunity. Details about the visit are yet to be determined.”
Cal Poly is trying to fill in for former athletics director Alison Cone, who retired from the position in December. She was at Cal Poly for almost 16 years and was hired as athletics director in 2005. Under Cone, Cal Poly grabbed 17 different conference titles, sent 13 teams and 87 individuals to postseason play or competition and had 23 teams boast a top-25 ranking.
Prettyman, who has been at the helm of Indiana State athletics for five years, told Sports 10 he spoke with Cal Poly a week ago and said he will interview within the next three weeks.
“I appreciate every one of you (at ISU) and am grateful for the opportunity that I have to work with you all every day,” Prettyman wrote. “You are very good at what you do and you are the reason that we have seen such a resurgence in the Sycamore Athletics program as we strive daily for excellence in the classroom and on the surface of competition.”
