A lone male suspect reportedly robbed the Washington Mutual Bank on Madonna Road in San Luis Obispo Monday shortly before 3 p.m.
Police said that the suspect entered the bank and gave the teller, who remains unnamed, a note demanding money. The suspect also told the teller that he had a gun, however no weapon was actually seen.
The suspect took off with an undisclosed amount of cash, and was last seen on foot running toward Applebee’s Restaurant, police said.
Nobody was injured during the robbery.
The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male, mid-to-late 30s, 5 feet 7 inches tall, and weighing 180 to 200 pounds, said Capt. Daniel Blanke of the San Luis Obispo Police Department. He was seen wearing a light-colored baseball hat, a tan long-sleeve pullover shirt, and light-colored pants.
Blanke said that it took about five minutes for the first officers to get on the scene.
For the most part, Washington Mutual customers do not appear to be concerned about the recent bank robbery.
“It’s kind of shocking to hear of a bank robbery in San Luis,” said Victor Delacruz of Los Osos. “But of course I’ll still go there, the robbery doesn’t scare me.”
Delacruz, 28, has been a Washington Mutual customer for several years, and goes to the one on Madonna Road often.
A spokesperson for Washington Mutual on Madonna Road said that they could not comment on the incident.
Blanke said that there are no updates available for news release at this time, and San Luis Obispo Police detectives are working on the case with the FBI.
This was the second bank robbery in San Luis Obispo County in less than a month.
On July 18, Michael Everett, a 57-year-old transient, reportedly robbed the Los Padres Bank on West Tefft Street in Nipomo, stealing an undisclosed amount of cash.
A week later, Everett turned himself in to Arkansas authorities, and he admitted robbing other banks.
