The Cal Poly men’s and women’s swimming and diving faced California in a two day “King and Queen of the Pool” swim meet at Anderson Aquatic Center on Friday and Saturday.
Among standouts were senior Peter Kline and sophomore Angie Haven who took top honors for the Mustangs each placing in the top 15 of the pentathlon, a combination of four 100-meter swims in each discipline and a 100-meter individual medley.
The winner, with the lowest combined time, was Cal freshman Marcin Tarczynski who completed the event in 4:13.88. Kline came through in seventh with a time of 4:23.57. Junior Dane Philpot was the next Mustang to finish at 4:35.51 in 16th place, followed closely by freshman Konrad Antoniuk at 4:36.83 in 17th.
On the women’s, Haven placed 13th in 5:00.69, slightly over 12 seconds behind the winner Caitlin Leverenz of Cal. Freshman Jill Jones and junior Gloria Benefield placed 18th and 19th, respectively, and were separated by only 39 milleseconds at 5:04.47 and 5:04.86.
Saturday’s finale at Anderson Aquatic Center included coed relays, where Cal Poly’s top quartet placed 5th in the 200-meter medley relay and 9th in the freestyle relay.
Peter Kline, Angie Haven, Aaron McKinnon and Amy Morales completed the mixed medley relay in 1:40.91, behind Cal’s top team, which posted a time of 1:37.42.
