Michael Garrett Youngblood 26, from Salinas, remains in custody at the San Luis Obispo county jail after being arrested for attempt murder of a peace officer.
Youngblood is being held without bail after he allegedly tried to run down a deputy sheriff at a crowded Lake Nacimiento campground Friday night. He is also being held on parole violation charges.
Youngblood was allegedly responsible for a disturbance at the recreational area and fled in a pick-up truck, driving through a campsite and toward a deputy approaching the scene. The deputy fired on the suspect just prior to the pick-up truck striking the deputy and knocking him to the ground.
The man tried to escape again by backing up but appears to have become mired in the soft dirt. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle.
The deputy was airlifted by CHP helicopter to Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton where he underwent surgery for a shattered leg on Saturday.
