Ryan ChartrandA recent letter estimated the number of civilian deaths in Iraq, but I believe it was severely understated. An article in the New York Times quoted a study done by American and Iraqi public health researchers, the estimate was slightly higher: between 426,369 and 793,663 for March 2003 to July 2006. Casualty counts from hospitals, morgues, and governments are alternately described as unrepresentative, and uncooperative, making estimates difficult and debated.
