The San Luis Obispo Police Department received a call reporting an attempted armed robbery that occurred in the early morning of Feb. 5 Mustang near building 111. The suspects include Michael Leon, 28, of Atascadero and Otis Vanadore, 33, of Atascadero.
Officers responding to the area were told an unknown male subject attempted an armed robbery on two security guards patrolling the apartment complex. The suspect was described as wearing a ski mask with goggles and dark clothing. He was last seen running northbound, towards the rear of the apartment complex. Upon arrival officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
The investigation revealed two security guards for the Mustang apartment complex were completing nightly patrols when the suspect who was wearing a ski mask and goggles began to run at them. The suspect pushed the first security guard to the ground and then approached the second security guard demanding money.
The security guard told the suspect he did not have any money. The suspect then removed a semiautomatic handgun from his waistband and approached the security guard on the ground. The suspect demanded the security guard’s money. While on the ground the guard was able to kick the suspect in the midsection of his body. The suspect responded by kicking the guard twice in the rib area and then ran from the location.
There were no injuries to either of the security guards and no loss of property.
