Cal Poly men’s golf placed in the top five of 11 teams in the Farms Invitational at the Farms Golf Club in Santa Fe, California Feb. 12 and 13.
The Mustangs tied for second with UC Los Angeles but slid to sixth place midway through the second round during the first day.
After the final round, Cal Poly finished fourth in the tournament with a final aggregate of 874, just three strokes behind first-place University of San Francisco.
They posted their lowest stroke total during the third and final round at 282 on the 6,902-yard, par-72 course.
Cal Poly concluded the first round of play only one-over-par 289. However, the team ended the first day with as many as five holes left to play in the second round.
They resumed second-round play Tuesday, starting the day 13 over par.

Senior Nick Engelhardt finished as one of the top five golfers, swinging six-under-par, the best score of the final round.
Engelhardt added six birdies and two bogeys to the team’s overall score. He also placed fourth in par-4 scoring.
Fellow senior Jimmy Castles, tallying a 74, tied for sixth with three other players after the first day of contention.
Castles finished the final round with four birdies himself, ending two-over-par with an aggregate score of 218 and securing himself a ninth-place tie. He ended fourth in par-3 scoring.
The Mustangs have a short break before returning to the links for the MacKenzie Match Play held by the University of San Francisco at the Pasatiempo Golf Club, March 12-13.
