Two vehicles were involved in a collision Oct. 9 at the crossroads of Foothill Boulevard and Ferrini Road around 10:30 p.m. Officials reported that one person suffered a major injury, four people suffered moderate injuries and one person suffered a minor injury.
All patients were transported to Sierra Vista Hospital but none were admitted, according to House Supervisor Cindy Sullenger.
“Six patients came in, only one of them was called a tier two trauma. All the patients were treated and discharged from the ER,” Sullenger said.
The cars involved were a Lexus sedan and a Mini Cooper. Officials are still investigating the cause, but say a Mini Cooper had been making an illegal U-turn, resulting in a head-on collision. Both vehicles were reported as totaled and the roads were closed, according to KSBY.
No drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, according to San Luis Obispo Police Department (SLOPD).
“It was just an accident, I mean there’s not really too much more to it,” SLOPD said.
SLO City Fire Captain Matt Lipson declared the crash to be a level I multi-casualty incident (MCI), meaning it only involved three to ten patients.

The collision occurred at the same location as the fatal hit-and-run bike accident that resulted in the death of landscape architecture student Kennedy Love earlier this year.
