With newspapers cutting their staffs and consolidating their content, the future of the printed word is scary.
Post World War II the traditional newspaper had its position of dominance. Now, given excessive alternatives today’s youth have migrated to other media forms that provide more entertainment.
The Annotated Weekender, a blog, has combined the notions of amusement and the newspaper to a literal level. Started in February 2009, the weekender takes British daily newspaper, The Guardian, and adds notes all over its weekend magazine editions.
Rather than correcting spelling mistakes or asking questions about content, the Annotated Weekender provides readers with highly entertaining doodles. Using mostly the papers advertisements and graphics, the Weekender has created a new form of newspaper graffiti.
Newspapers should take note: this could be a new potential cartoon in the Sunday comics. I’m glad someone has found an answer to what should be done with day-old news.
