nick camachoFans of friendly musical competition were out in full force Thursday afternoon to support the Battle of the Bands winner Say No More and other contestants.
The event took place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the University Union and included Say No More and three local bands; MoonShine, Foreign Hand and Play It By.
The Industrial Technology Society sponsored the free event as well as a barbecue including hamburgers, chips and a drink and a raffle for students.
“It’s our first annual event to set ITS apart from everyone else,” said Johnny Fisher, an industrial technology junior and public relations and fundraising officer for ITS.
The bands performed for 30 to 45 minutes and were judged by a panel of three students, including Chad Deupser, Dan Frigon and Tejas Bafna, all industrial technology students.
Say No More won a $250 cash prize as well as a $50 gift certificate to Absolute Autosound in San Luis Obispo.
“They were great bands and all of them had different sounds,” said Frigon, a Cal Poly alumus. “I was really impressed.”
The raffle was for four $50 gift certificates donated by Absolute Autosound. The first place ticket received a gift certificate and $50 in cash. Tickets cost $1.
