Every quarter, Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) seeks to meet students’ needs by putting on events that will cater to them. The outreach and special events assistant for ASI Samantha Pryor shared information about upcoming events for this quarter — events meant to leave students surprised and with lasting memories.
Welcome Back Show
The first event of the new year and winter quarter will be a welcome back concert on the University Union (UU) stage on Jan. 7. The artists featured will be X Ambassadors and Freedom Fry.
Create and Connect
This will be a laid back event in the UU Craft Center on Jan. 14 with live music provided by Nesrine Majzoub. Free food will also be provided. Students will be given the opportunity to decorate mugs, mason jars and canvas squares.
Late Night Glow Bowl
Happening Jan. 22, from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., free bowling, food and shoe rentals are offered in this quarterly event. Students can make reservations up to the day of the event for certain time slots throughout the evening.
Acoustic Coffeehouse Series
This quarter, the Starbucks lounge area will be home to three sessions of the acoustic coffeehouse series. On Feb. 4 Kyvon Brown, Kyle Erickson and Calvin Noetzel will be performing. Addison Rifkind will perform on Feb. 18, and Rowan McGuire will perform on March 3. These events will be at 11 a.m. on each of those dates. Free food will also be provided.
Valentine’s Day Crafts
Feb. 11 at 11 a.m. That’s the Key, the university’s acappella group, will perform in the UU Craft Center while people create Valentine’s Day themed crafts. Free food will also be provided.
Movie Night
Mockingjay Part 2 will be shown in Chumash on Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. The movie is not set for release on DVD or Blu-Ray until March 2016. Popcorn, candy and drinks will be provided.
Color Me Calm
On March 10, ASI will have its quarterly finals and dead week pick me up, this time with a hint of nostalgia. It will be a way to de-stress. The event will include stress reducing activities such as coloring in coloring books.
Other Events
HBO plans to have events on campus as well. Divya Thirunagari, an HBO campus agent, said that while nothing specific is planned, there will be three to four events planned by the HBO campus agents next quarter.
