UPDATE 1:00 p.m.: Student tickets are now sold out.
Ever since the Blue-Green Rivalry tradition between the Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara men’s soccer teams started gaining traction in 2007, getting a student ticket for the game has become less of a leisure trip to the ticket kiosk and more of a mad dash.
This year is no exception.
In fact, according to an email from Cal Poly Ticket Office Manager Ryan Gruss, as of Tuesday afternoon, there are approximately 500 student tickets remaining out of the original 8,000 reserved.
The fast ticket selling and sellouts started to occur more consistently around 2012, with tickets selling well before game day.
Days before kickoff and already low on tickets, this year looks like it will follow the same trend.
In 2012, student tickets were sold for only one day — the Friday before the game — and sold out that same day. Instead of selling only one day, 2013 and 2014 tickets were sold the week of the game.
They didn’t last the week. They sold out two days before the game.
With past year ticket sales showing just how fast tickets can go, Chris Giovannetti’s — Cal Poly Athletics assistant media relations director — words about this year’s tickets may have students running for the Rec Center kiosk.
“Once they’re gone, they’re gone,” Giovannetti said in an email.
Student tickets can be picked up with a Cal Poly ID at the Performing Arts Center the rest of the week from noon to 6 p.m. until they sell out. And, according to Gruss, they may very well sell out by tomorrow.
