The Cal Poly women’s tennis team saw its season come to a close Friday as they fell 4-0 to top-seeded Long Beach State in the Big West Conference Tournament quarterfinals at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
In doubles play, redshirt sophomore Louise Oxnevad and junior Dane Joubert fell 8-5 in the No. 1 slot. Following the first doubles match, the No. 2 doubles team of sophomore Emily Gibbens and senior Hannah Stone lost 8-4. Redshirt Freshman Zoe Oedekerk and senior freshman Molly Reed had their No. 3 doubles match halted after the 49ers claimed the first two victories and the doubles point.
Singles play did not fare much better for Cal Poly. The first matchup saw Gibbens fall 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. Following Gibben’s straight-set loss, sophomore Sayaka Tsugui lost 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 6 spot before Reed fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, sealing the loss for the Mustangs.
Oxnevad, Stone, and Oedekerk had their singles matches left unfinished once Long Beach State gained their fourth point.
Cal Poly finished the season 5-16 with a 1-7 conference record. Gibbens is listed as the only senior on a roster that boasts six underclassmen.
