Junior forward Brian Bennett has been named to the All-Big West Conference second team, the only Cal Poly men’s basketball player awarded accolades this season.
The 6-foot-9 forward from Romeoville, Illinois averaged 11.2 points per game, making him the second leading scorer on the team. Bennett tallied double digit point in 18 of his 28 appearances. He set a career-high in points against UC Davis on Jan. 31, dropping in 27 against the Big West regular season champs.
His presence in the paint was prevalent, pulling down an average of 6.4 boards per game, good for seventh most in the conference.
The Big West accolade is the first of Bennett’s career.
No. 7 Cal Poly is set to face No. 2 UC Santa Barbara in the first round of the Big West Tournament on Thursday night. The matchup is an exact repeat of the first round of the 2014 Big West Tournament, where the Mustangs handily defeated the Gauchos 69-38 on their way to the Big West title.
