The Parsons Dance Company, an energetic, modern dance group from New York, will be performing on Sunday, April 23 at the Alex and Faye Spanos Theatre.
“It’s a spunky and energetic company,” said office manager Gillian Smith. “It’s pretty interesting.”
The show features 11 dancers who, according to a press release, “move fast and furious, like demons but with an obvious love for entertaining.” They dance to the jam band music of Dave Matthews and Earth, Wind and Fire.
Davis Parsons began the group in 1987. Since then, they have traveled throughout the United States and even internationally, dancing in Europe, Brazil and Chile.
The group performed to audiences around the world with their 24-hour performance in Times Square to celebrate New Years in 2000.
Smith has received commissions from the New York City Ballet, the American Dance Theatre and Paul Taylor Dance Company.
The Parsons Dance Company also provides community outreach in New York City in their 42nd Street neighborhood with all levels of dance classes.
“It just makes dance fun and appropriate for all ages,” Smith said. “(We want) everyone to leave having an appreciation for dance.”
The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets and more information are available at www.pacslo.org.
