The University Police Department (UPD) issued a safety advisory due to a mountain lion sighting near campus.
The sighting occurred on Wednesday at approximately 5:30 p.m. near the rock quarry above Poly Canyon Road. The mountain lion did not show aggression toward the hiker.
Mountain lions are common to the area, and it’s rare — but not impossible — for them to attack humans, the email stated.
The email directed students to the UPD website for more information, including precautions to take if they come across a mountain lion.
