The California State University (CSU) System has created a new position to expand its efforts to prevent sexual assault and selected Pamela Thomason for the systemwide Title IX compliance officer, according to a CSU press release.
Thomason’s responsibilities include collaborating with the divisions of Academic and Student Affairs, Human Resources and General Counsel of all 23 campuses to make sure they are informed of the latest sexual assault policies and trauma-informed practices, according to the press release.
“Pam is a well-recognized authority on this topic who brings exceptional knowledge and experience with her to the CSU. Her work will be vital to expanding the education and training of students, faculty and staff to tackle the issue of sexual violence in our campus communities,” Fram Virjee, CSU Executive Vice Chancellor and General Counsel said in the press release. “Safety is a paramount priority on our campuses and Pam’s hiring is another step in working to ensure the safest possible learning environment for our students.”
Thomason’s background in sexual assault stems from her work at University of California, Los Angeles as the sexual harassment and Title IX officer.
