The Cal Poly women’s soccer team (8-8-0, 3-2-0 Big West Conference) continued its conference run with a 2-1 victory over UC Irvine on Friday at Anteater Stadium.
In the fourth minute, junior forward Elise Krieghoff, assisted by sophomore forward Megan Abutin, brought the Mustangs to an early 1-0 lead. Krieghoff now has 12 on the season.
Cal Poly scored a second time in the 18th minute when sophomore forward Lydia Anderson, assisted by Krieghoff, launched one into the net.
The Mustangs kept a shutout up until the 54th minute when senior midfielder Bianca Frontino scored for UC Irvine.
Junior goalkeeper Alyssa Giannetti saved a remarkably high seven shots throughout the game. Krieghoff now owns 44 career goals at Cal Poly, one short of the school record.
The Mustangs, who totaled 12 shots, will face UC Riverside at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
