In the Big Sky Conference preseason polls released Tuesday, the Cal Poly football team was selected to finish in fourth place by the coaches and media. Eastern Washington received 12 of the 13 first place votes, followed by Montana and Montana State in second and third place, respectively.
The fourth-place finish would be a repeat of last year, when the Mustangs went 5-3 in conference play and 6-6 overall.
Preseason all-conference teams were also released this week, including two Mustangs — senior running back Kristaan Ivory and senior linebacker Nick Dzubnar.
Ivory rushed for more than 1,000 yards and six touchdowns in 2013, including five 100-yard games. He also led the team with 33 receptions for 200 yards and one touchdown.
In his junior campaign, Dzubnar led the Mustangs with 112 tackles, eighth highest in the Big Sky. He also tallied one sack, one interception and three forced fumbles, earning him third-team Big Sky honors. Dzubnar is already No. 14 on Cal Poly’s all-time tackles list, with 247.
Cal Poly kicks off its season on Aug. 28 at New Mexico State. The home opener is set for September 20 against Portland State.
