Lightning in a Bottle (LIB), a weekend-long art and music festival, is set for the weekend of May 22-26. LIB will be held at the Lake San Antonio Recreation Area in Bradley, Calif. This year’s lineup includes Moby, Phantogram, Little Dragon and Baauer.
Dede Flemming, the co-founder of The DoLab — the company that founded Lightning in a Bottle — said LIB draws a diverse crowd, with an audience a little older than what you might expect.
“It’s not the kind of ‘bro’ culture that you might see at a Coachella,” Flemming said. “It’s a little more open-minded; they’re a little more caring. They’re a little less judgmental. It’s a really safe place for people to come and be themselves.”
LIB has several stages including the Lightning Stage, the Woogie Stage and the Bamboo Stage. The Lightning Stage is the largest of the stages, featuring larger acts. The Woogie Stage is identified with the house music scene, and the Bamboo Stage has more trap and bass music.
In addition to the three main stages, there are many other areas where artists perform. The Grand Artique is a western-themed village with a fully immersive trading post and its own live music stage, playing mostly folk music, and The Temple of Consciousness features word music.
LIB also has art installations as well as 55 live painters on site with their easels and canvases, painting the entire time. Their paintings will be sold on Sunday evening in a silent auction to raise money for public art programs.
But LIB doesn’t just have music and art — the festival’s intent is to be a heart- and mind-expanding oasis, and there are speakers, yoga and workshops all weekend long.
