Junior Naveen Beasley clinched the Cal Poly men’s tennis team’s third NCAA Tournament berth in the past four years on Sunday. His victory on the No. 6 court secured a 4-1 win for Cal Poly over Hawaii in the Big West Conference Men’s Tennis Championship in Indian Wells, Calif.
Beasley beat the Rainbow Warriors’ Pavel Liska 7-5, 6-3 to give the Mustangs the win at Indian Wells Tennis Garden. It marked the second time this past weekend that Beasley clinched a victory for Cal Poly, as he did the same in Friday’s 4-0 drubbing of UC Santa Barbara.
Cal Poly took the doubles point as seniors Marco Comuzzo and Matt Thomson teamed up to win the opener 8-4 and senior Jurgen De Jager and freshman Ben Donovan took the other match.
Hawaii tied the match at 1-all in singles, but the Mustangs rattled off the next three points to notch the victory. Donovan, De Jager and Beasley got the wins for Cal Poly.
Cal Poly will find out its first-round opponent at 2 p.m. on Tuesday during the NCAA.com Selection Show.
