Camille Brown is a busy Kinesiology senior. She plays for Cal Poly’s softball team, is a CrossFit competitor and has reached international success through Instagram.
“I did a couple handstands I want to say two years ago and this really big account posted my picture like a repost.”
In the world of social media, that’s all it took. Camille went viral.
“Oh my gosh, this girl is messaging me from Yahoo! I was like no way!”
Yahoo Shrine featured Camille as on of their Top 10 Fitness Gurus on Instagram. After the article was published, Camille gained another 1,000 followers bringing her total followers to more than 20,000.
Being a fitness Instagram was not Camille’s intention when joining the social network, but it has helped keep her on track with her goal of becoming a stronger CrossFit participant.
“My friends joke around like if I have an ice cream or something they will be like ‘oooh we won’t tell your followers you’re having that.'”
During her first CrossFit challenge in Pismo Beach, the focus wasn’t always on the games.
“I had a bunch of people say, ‘oh my gosh that’s camille4wildcat’ and I was like, ‘I’m not that big of a deal, like I appreciate it but I’m not there yet.”
As for her future on Instagram, Camille will continue to handstand anytime, anywhere. After graduation, she hopes to get a sponsorship to promote products through her pictures.
