Playing its first game away from Baggett Stadium in over a month, the No. 4 Cal Poly baseball team used a combined five-hitter from junior southpaw Matt Imhof and junior reliever Reed Reilly to take down Hawaii 3-2 in a Big West series opener in Honolulu on Friday.
The Mustangs (28-5) earned their fourth straight win, and have now won 18 of their last 20.
Senior outfielder Tim Wise drove in the winning run with a two-out single to bring in designated hitter Brian Mundell in the sixth inning.
Senior catcher Chris Hoo led Cal Poly on offense, going 2 for 3 at the plate while all but two batters got a hit in the game for the Mustangs.
Hawaii scored runs in the first and second innings, but couldn’t produce much offense from there.
Game two of the three-game series starts at 9:35 p.m. PST on Saturday.
