The five-time Tony-nominated musical “Rock of Ages” is coming to the Christopher Cohan Performing Arts Center.
“Rock of Ages” is a musical featuring the biggest hits of the 1980s. This love story is told through the hits of Journey, Night Ranger, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister and more.
The performance includes hit songs such as “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “We Built This City,” “The Final Countdown,” “Wanted Dead or Alive,” “Here I Go Again,” “Can’t Fight This Feeling” and “I Want to Know What Love Is.”
“Rock of Ages” features Tony Award nominee and American Idol finalist Constantine Maroulis, who plays Drew, a young rocker hoping for a big break in Los Angeles.
Drew falls for a small-town girl chasing big dreams of her own, and the musical is centered around their story, which takes place in the era of sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll.
“I’ve seen the show before, and it’s such fun,” Cal Poly Arts director Steve Lerian said. “The whole audience is up and jumping around and singing. Just being in the audience makes you smile.”
Lerian said the show is cross-generational and fun for everyone.
“It’s totally fun for kids, and I saw people in their teens, 20s and 60s in the audience,” Lerian said. “It’s a fun show for all ages.”
Tickets are still available and can be bought at the Cal Poly Arts website.
Lerian said there will probably be tickets sold at the door at 50 percent off for Cal Poly students.
The show is slated for April 16 at 7:30 p.m.
