He’s funky. He’s seasoned. He’s groovy. He’s Boz Scaggs, and he’s about to fire it up.
The critically acclaimed rock artist will hit the Christopher Cohan Performing Arts Center on May 19. Scaggs is touring on behalf of his new album release, A Fool To Care.
Cal Poly arts director Steve Lerian says the album has been well received, which is to be expected from “one of the greatest feel-good performers of the last half century.”
“It’s kind of his traditional R&B voice, with some cool rhythms,” he said. “It’s an album you would expect from him, and it’s really well done.”
Scaggs is a jack-of-all-trades, so to speak, with a sound that ranges from blues to R&B, from rock to funk.
Scaggs has performed around the Central Valley area, but never at the Performing Arts Center. Lerian had the chance to see him a few years back in a small New York venue.
“He commands the stage really well,” Lerian said. “It was such a treat.”
Scaggs is perhaps best known for his 1976 album, Silk Degrees, which contains some of his greatest hits, such as “Lido Shuffle” and “Lowdown.”
Tickets are available pre-sale, online at polytix or at the door. Tickets are still available, but selling out is likely. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Lerian expects to see a lot of “baby-boomers” in the crowd, but said there’s always room for some college-aged old souls, too.
