Most farmers’ markets focus on unimportant things, like fruits and vegetables. Local vendors line the road, where produce-parsers mindlessly wander from apple to zucchini and back again. If only those zombie-like individuals knew there was something better, once a year, for students only and lasting two hours, on the Cal Poly campus.
That something better was Associated Students, Inc.’s (ASI) Cal Poly Farmers’ Market, which took over the Julian A. McPhee University Union (UU) Plaza Thursday. Cal Poly students did sell campus-grown fruits and vegetables, but ASI was forward-thinking enough to make entertainment the focus. Giant versions of Connect Four and chess were scattered through the plaza, and ice cream was liberally distributed among all participants.
In a town famous for its Farmers’ Market, Cal Poly did it better.
