Trends come and go, but timeless pieces will never fail you.
While it doesn’t hurt to stay on top of the latest trends, you should have some classic clothing items in your wardrobe that will never go out of style. Classic pieces are always versatile and can easily be worked into your everyday wardrobe.
All the must-haves below will come in handy for the mornings when you’re stuck staring at your closet full of clothes, wondering why you don’t have anything to wear.
Once you’ve come to terms with the fact that you actually have more than enough clothes to wear, grab one or two of these pieces to create a simple and stylish look.
1. Tailored black blazer
A blazer isn’t just for work or more professional occasions; it’s perfect for every day.
For a casual look, throw a blazer over a dress or simple tee. For more professional occasions, pair a blazer with dress pants and a blouse.
Invest in a nice blazer that’s tailored and fits you perfectly. You’ll wear it for years to come.
2. Classic white button down or blouse
A crisp white button down or blouse is a must-have for two reasons:
1. It looks good with everything.
2. It makes you look sharp, and who doesn’t want to look like they have everything under control?
For a classic but always stylish outfit, pair a white button down or blouse with dark denim.
3. The perfect little black dress
The LBD should be your best friend. It’s classic, flattering and always stylish.
Having a trusty little black dress in your closet will always come in handy, whether you need it for dates, nights out, class or everything in between.
Dress an LBD down for the day with sandals or flats, or dress it up for a night out with a statement necklace and a great pair of heels.
4. Versatile statement necklace
A statement necklace is a must for days when you want to add a little something extra to a simple outfit.
Dress up a LBD with a statement necklace for a night out, or add some sparkle to your outfit for class.
5. Dark wash denim
A classic pair of denim in a dark wash is flattering and stress free. Whether they are skinny or bootcut, a nice pair of jeans will do you and your wardrobe some good. You really can’t go wrong with some nice denim.
6. Basic T-shirts
If you don’t have them already, pick up a few basic crew and v-necks in classic colors like navy, black and white. A simple T-shirt will always come in handy.
7. A good pair of flats
Sometimes, heels just kill. Treat yourself to a nice pair of flats that you can always rely on for when you don’t feel like being four inches taller — or just want to be comfortable. Your feet will thank you.
When you’re feet just can’t handle heels any more, you’ll be happy you have a pair of comfortable flats by your side.
8. Black pumps
For those days when you do feel like dressing up and standing a little taller, grab your pumps. Invest in a quality, comfortable pair of classic pumps you can wear anywhere.
9. A watch
You think we would all know this by now, but taking out your phone just to look at the time isn’t acceptable in all situations. Invest in a nice watch that you will love to look down at every now and then.
10. Your perfect bag
A sturdy, structured bag perfect for any occasion is an absolute must-have.
There are crossbody bags that only fit your keys, phone and maybe your wallet. On the other end of the spectrum, there are huge totes that are ridiculously big. Don’t get me wrong, these handbags do have their important uses and it doesn’t hurt to buy one of each. However, you should find the middle ground and invest in a handbag that will comfortably fit all your necessities for the days when you need just about everything.
